How to clean wallpaper?

Has anybody got any recommendations about cleaning textured wallpaper?

My wallpaper has gone darker in places: it is probably a combination of mould and a bit of dirt.

I am a little bit nervous to have too vigorous a go at it in case I damage the wallpaper.

Bread! Sorry, am on phone - but google for more info.

Thanks, Alberta.

I will get hold of some white bread and have a go. You don't think it is worth attempting to clean it with a mild soap solution as an alternative?

wet cleaning will turn dust into a stain.

Thanks, Alberta and PigletJohn. I have got hold of some white bread and will have a go on my wallpaper. I hope it will work... I shall report back!

Well... I had a go today. I used about half a loaf of bread.

The walls look better but they are not perfect, possibly because I had already attempted to clean the wallpaper with a sponge 2-3 months ago.

Tricky one... I don't know if I should strip the wallpaper and re-decorate. I still have rolls of it though, so I could only do the walls that are damaged.

I also have some magic sponges, which I have never used.. I may have a go with them.

Anyway, I think the bread did make a difference - I just think I used it too late...

Thanks for the tips though!
