Storing necklaces advice wanted please...

I have a number of necklaces which have thin gold chains and lovely jewels:) they tangle themselves up in the bottom of my jewellery box and it isn't good for them as they are very hard to undo.

I dont want a necklace tree as they are too fine and I don't wear them much as they are not practical and dcs pull on them. The necklace tree things arent practical for my house as dc will be drawn to it! I could get one and put it in the cupboard, but I don't want them out and unprotected iykwim. Any advice?? Or ideas??

Some of the larger jewellery boxes have a compartment (mine is in the lid) specially for this - where each necklace gets its own 'hook/button' thing so they hang nice and don't tangle up.
Check out the boxes in places like M&S or John Lewis as they are all now out for christmas.

I had hoped you may be talking about larger/longer necklaces - more costume jewellery type pieces. I haven't got a solution for them!

For long and costume jewellery I use a belt hanger or tie hanger in the wardrobe, the ones you get for men.

I hang mine over coast hangers in my wardrobe.

I hang mine on the inside of my wardrobe on these - all my friends are VERY jealous. They also work for hanging earrings.

My wardrobe is a built in wardrobe, part of which kind of wraps around a chimney breast, which means that they're knocked off by clothes or anything. All my friends were jealous when they first saw it, and have all now copied.

Small ziploc bags - I got a few dozen from gaming shops, and you can see through them to the contents.

I've a drinking glass in the jewellery box so it's easy to hang necklaces/chains over the rim, which settle both inside and outside glass, easy to view and don't tangle.

I put mine on the coathanger of the outfit Im most likely to wear them with.

I have a variation on the necklace stand. it goes on the wall and has a row of hooks, it spells out necklace, very simple, and because it goes on wall it is out of reach. you could also put it on inside of a wardrobe door.

A few years ago I had a whole set of nails on the inside of wardrobe door!

I do have a mug tree - but tend to use that for the chunkier / beads type of necklace. Most others are on a cork pinboard screwed to the wall. Can view them all at a glance, and nothing is tangled.

I use IKEA little rows of hooks which is screwed to the back of my wardrobe doors. Have several - some for long, some for heavy and some for finer necklaces. My special, very fine gold chains are in little ziplock bags in jewllery box

I have an IKEA slide-out rail with hooks on the inside wall of my wardrobe.

Another nice idea is to buy some of those little gauze drawstring bags (available on eBay) and put each piece into one.

I bought a craft box like this, and its perfect for all the necklaces and earrings as they go in individual sections and can't tangle

A bit like janey, I have self-adhesive hooks on the inside of a wardrobe. I have about a zillion necklaces - the whole side of the wardrobe and half the back are covered. Works a treat.

DH screwed a couple of rows of hooks into the inside wardrobe door. Stick-on hooks would work just as well.

The cork pinboard idea is a good one.

One of those plastic fishing tackle/beading boxes with compartments that are about an inch square.

I find they're great for very fine chains.

Once they're tangled, a good tip I heard somewhere was to rub a pencil on them - the graphite lubricates them and they untangle much more easily.
