Getting oil out of my carpet

FreshWest · 07/11/2012 07:55

Idiot DH has trekked oily bits of muck from his bike onto the carpet.
Please, oh please wise MNers, how do I restore my carpet to its former loveliness?
Thanks hopefully

Fairy liquid

Wow mortimer that was quick. Do I just squirt it on? Then wipe it off with a sponge?

Lightning reflexes!

I'd put a blob on a damp sponge and use that. But if there's a lot of oil, absorb the worst of it with kitchen roll or tissues first.

Thank you mortimer, a hundred times thank you! Thanks & Wine
Did this yesterday and though not totally gone the mark has faded enough so as not to be visible to anyone who doesn't know precisely where the mark was. I'll have another go tomorrow to see if I can get rid of the last traces.
(I feel slightly embarrassed to admit that I let out a small cheer along the lines of "yay! thank goodness for Mortimer!" when I realised it had worked)

Grin Grin Grin I have to admit, since I was the only MNer with a suggestion, I had been feeling the weight of responsibility in case it didn't work... very happy for you! Hooray!
