How do you keep your table linen white and remove nasty food/wine stains?

My white tablecloth and napkins are trashed after every outing with red wine and foodstains etc. I've spent considerable time soaking with stain remover and applying products to get the marks out and still end up with permanent stains. It must be possible to do better! How do people do it? Please share your method with me so I can have a lovely dinner table and be the hostess with the mostess!

Soak in salty cold water ASAP after the spillage, then Ecover stain remover. Then a soak in the machine on a cotton wash.

I use washing powder for whites (DAZ) together with generous scoop of Oxy Vanish for whites and if at all possible let it dry outside. The iron and Bob's your uncle - no stains, looks as new.
