Business paperwork seems to be needed to be kept for 7 years?

But what about private household paperwork.
Is it safe to shred that after say 2 years?
eg bank statements, credit card statements, insurance documents etc

I scan and shred once a month immediately. I can't bear having paperwork all over the house.

Dont know how to scan.
Does that mean everything is stored on computer, and for how long?
I get antsy about that too -to keep or not to keep in my inbox.
