And it's completely carbonised. Is there any way of lifting the carbon without scouring away the Teflon too?

Try:
putting some water in with a bit of washing up liquid and boiling on the hob ( Keep watching to check it doesn't boil dry). Then try cleaning with a gentle scouring pad suitable for non-stick surfaces

Or: put some warm water into it and dissolve some biological washing powder and leave overnight. Then try again with scouring pad.

Thank you Arti. Unfortunately DH has set about it with a razor blade behind my back, and we may be looking for a new pan now!

Oh dear, sounds like its too late but I was just going to say the washing up liquid and water then boiling suggestion from arti has worked for me on a number of occasions.

I was going to say boiling lemonade in it but I don't think it can solve the razor blade problem!
