How do you clean bathroom mats?

How do you guys clean your bathroom mats???
The ones I own are fluffy soft ones which fit into the washing machine. I wash them at 40 degrees and then start the washing machine on a short cycle with a little bit of washing powder just because I find it disgusting to put clothes in there after the bathroom mats. A little bit OCD for some, I know...
We moved into a new house and found two matts in the bathroom which are in good condition but I regret not having removed them immediately before they became dirty because I have no clue how to clean them. They are not as soft as the ones I own so you can't fold them and put them in the washing machine. They are more like conventional rugs. Anyone got an idea? Thank you!

Throw them out? You are not obliged to keep random things you find in a property you buy. They were left behind for a reason -- former owners didn't know what to do with them either...

I wouldn't want to keep someone else's bath mats unless I could machine wash them.

Chuck them and get washable ones.

Oh I should have mentioned that we rent this place. As it is furnished, the landlady expects everything back the way we found it. I just want to clean these stupid bathroom mats and put them in the loft if they are such a hassle to clean...
Thanks for your quick reply btw ;)
