Are steam mops any good?

And if so which one?

I have a large slate floor in kitchen/diner, small-ish bathroom and wooden floor in hallway. Can I use on all these surfaces?

We've just bought a H2o mop (as seen on some advertising wierd chanel before film 4 starts!)We've not had it very long but I have used it to steam clean laminate floors and a tiled floor. Also used the carpet glider to do rug and it works really well. (though we tried it on our extremely old and worn carpet and it didn't seem to do anything) we used the jet nozzle to clean the burnt on stuff round hob and the oven door and it was amazing. If you have dirt in the tiles like in bumpy parts (ours has a bumpy mottled sort of texture) The jet nozzle did clean it but there was way too much steam going up into the cupboards so I ended up giving it a really good scrub with a brush and then steam mopping it and it came up a treat. And now the 'ground in' dirt has gone (I should have scrubbed it months ago ) I am hoping it will come up nice again next time I use it. I did try the window cleaning attatchment and that was ok but still left a few streaks. And the garment steamer attatchment I used to freshen up our velvet covered dining chairs and it was fine on them.

Sorry not looked at this thread for a bit! Your welcome. Let us know if you get sorted with one. I have seen something similar to ours advertised on 'normal' tv and wondereing how it compares. Mind you we are happy with ours!

I have a Vax S2. I use it on semi-solid wood, tiles and carpet and it does a great job. The carpet smells a bit of wet dog for a couple of hours afterwards but once it dries out it's fine!

Also I used in on my couch this evening because DD puked on it. I'm still waiting for the wet dog smell to go away fully but as far as I can tell the vomit smell is gone.

The Vax one is reduced in Argos.. I think I am going to go for it

I can't decide which one to get - read so many mixed reviews of the Vax ones.

My budget is £60, which is how much Lakeland's own brand one costs.

So, real people (not weird amazon reviewers), have you had any problems with the Vax ones? Or should i go for Lakeland which has very few complaints?

So it's back to Vax for me I think.

babbas, Hubby and I were fascinated by this advert too, normally we don't tune in but this one we actually 'paused' whilst we made a drink and then continued watching! Needless to say we bought it the same day (ordered through amazon) we just couldn't resist either!
The only other advert I have been as fascinated with, was the one for the complete Zumba fitness work out! I never bought that but am hoping someone will get me the wii fit version to do in secret!

Always - have you found that your hubby is obsessed with using it? My hubby never cleans but today I got the mop out and we nearly fought over whose turn it was to steam clean the tiles. We also tussled over it when it came to cleaning the shower curtain! Bizarre behaviour.

Ha, Ha! we havn't actually fought over it but he was disapointed when I told him not to bother 'doing' the hallway as it didn't clean our extremely old worn carpet. Then I used it in the hallway just for the hygenic thing and he was 'You told me not to bother doing that!' in injured tones!
He did enjoy using it in his office and had the urge to boast about how good it was and how clean and shiny it had made the floor, almost as if he personally had knelt and polished it using tiny organic cotton rags!
I only got one floor cloth in my pack, but I discovered if you have a decent sized micro fibre cloth and fasten it around the floor cleaning untit pinning it at the top with a safety pin, the carpet glider part helps keep it in place too and it works just as well as the cloth provided. (I was going to make some with old towels and stitch velcro on but I felt lazy so I tried it and it works!)
I might try cleaning the bathroom wall tiles with it again, or ask hubbby if he wants a turn...
