new carpet and baby

We're having a polypropelyne carpet fitted in our living room on Thursday. DD is 7 months and rolls about on the floor. I know I shouldn't let her roll about on the new carpet on that day and should keep the windows open, but when is it safe to let her play on it?

Can you get it professionally cleaned? No idea what's special about that type of carpet but that's what I would do :)

has somebody told you that new carpet gives off damaging fumes? Who, why, and what?

At least a few days, and keep the windows open to help it air.

I know there's a lot of confusion about how safe new carpets are, but they make me ill with flu-like symptoms, so better safe than sorry with your baby.

I agree, try to really air the room. I would go so far to say go out if you can. We had one laid that stank. Real headache stuff. After a good airing and Hoover should be fine. If it still smells keep baby off it.
