Just want a bed with no wood - can't find one anywhere - want something with wire metal mesh like they had in the olden days but everywhere we look it seems the metal beds come with wooden slats. Someone must be sleeping on one surely

Google threw this up _ www.astleybedfactory.co.uk/4-6-ELLIE-METAL-BED-FRAME.html

do you need handcuffs or a rack ?

BackforGood · 23/10/2012 00:05

My dd's bed has slats made of the same metal as the bedframe. It's awful though - the slats have curved in only a couple of years (and she's only a strip of a thing, I don't think it's due to her weight!). At present she's sleeping in a sort of a u shape.....

we have one from Homebase with metal tubes under the mattress & it seems pretty sturdy

I don't know if they still do it, I'll have a look

Ponders · 23/10/2012 00:11

oh, that link of JsOtherHalf has several with mesh!

\link{http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=1544682\ours is called Sammi} though the one we have is double

(it says slats but ours is def tubes. Have had it 3 years or so but I doubt if it's changed)

Ponders · 23/10/2012 00:18

\link{http://www.astleybedfactory.co.uk/search.php?mode=search&objects_per_page=20\these are all the mesh base ones from JOH's link}

ThatVikRinA22 · 23/10/2012 00:19

have to say mine was considerably more expensive than those linked....

Ponders · 23/10/2012 00:27

I've been v pleased with the Sammi one - it's well made & has a really solid finish. Also it's high enough to get lots of useful storage boxes underneath Smile

It would be most comfortable with a firm mattress (one of those non-turning ones for preference). Ours was bought for DS2 when he was 15-16 & he wouldn't have a firm one, so it's "medium" with springs & gives too much for my liking

Blimey thanks for all these - will show them to dh and hopefully I'll be off the sofa by the weekend.

We've got one more by default than design as we were desperate for a base after sending 2 crap but expensive ones back. It was dead cheap from tesco (online) but I don't think they do it any more. It's tubes and it's got a massive mattress on it which weighs a ton and it's been fine. Due to the thickness of the matress it probably wouldn't matter if it was placed on nails - I doubt we'd feel them!

spottymoo · 23/10/2012 16:12

We got dd a double metal framed bed with metal slats each one is screwed in separately into the base and its really sturdy we got it from Argos

eatyourveg · 23/10/2012 17:16

Just ordered one - 48 hour courier delivery. Thanks for all the links

Hello eatyourveg.I know that it is almost 2 yrs since you posted on this forum. I would love to know where you eventually got your Metal Bed from as I am in the same predicament myself at the minute and I cannot find one without wooden slats anywhere. any help or advice would be much appreciated. Regards....Stan
