Hotpoint built-in dishwasher - help please!

I've just noticed the rubber seal which is situated at the bottom (so underneath the door when closed) of the open door has disintegrated and came off in my hands with no force. Is it safe to do a wash (it must have been half hanging off anyway).

Anyone else had this happen? Is it something I can order a part for or do I have to get someone in at sillybollocks per hour?

is this a sort of black foam rubber strip? That seals between the bottom of the door and the lip of the cabinet?

I've noticed they often perish with age and fall off. They seem to be like draught-strip with a glued side.

The only time it seems to matter is when you open the door part-way through a wash, then when you close it, the increase in pressure as the new air heats up and expands pushes foam (if foam there is) through the gap for a couple of seconds.

I have not yet been able to find a supply of the strip they use, and the powerful detergent in dishwasher tabs washes off the adhesive on a substitute I tried. I did once look at the online parts manual for a Bosch, and the foam strip didn't seem to be shown.

As long as you remember not to open the door during a wash, or to close it very slowly to let the pressure escape, it doesn't seem to matter. Keep a mop or sponge handy. You could try asking in the Appliances section of DIYnot
