What do you do with all the cards?

I am having a big 'tidy-up-the-house' day, and seem to have accumulated a huge pile of cards over the last few years - xmas, birthdays, postcards, wedding invites, birth announcements, new baby, thank you cards, etc, etc...
So now what was supposed to be a half hour tidy-up of the kitchen dresser has turned into 2 hours reading all these cards, messages, etc...
The question is - what does everyone else do with these - shall I just chuck them all and have a nice clean, clear dresser or sift through them and keep 'special' ones with nice messages, photos in for instance. And if keeping them - where to put them so they don't just end up overflowing everywhere again?
(Now of course I am wasting time MNetting and not getting on with things, sigh...)

Good ideas about gift tags, I have a large bag full of cards now to be recycled once I have cut some tags out, and a much smaller pile of things to keep in a (large) shoebox. I am probably still being a bit sentimental - which is how I ended up with them taking over the place to start with!

I usually light the fire with them, or recycle. Might keep the odd one or two.

My mum (I found when she died earlier this year) had kept every card she ever got Shock. I felt really guilty culling them (I did keep a few). There really didn't seem any point keep ing them all - who would want them ?!

So I guess it depends on your attitude to cards - no big deal to me, big deal to my mum.
