Smell of gloss paint?

Not sure if this should be here on in DIY. Have been on a decorating rampage and as a result have painted almost every radiator on our house with gloss paint. The most recent one was finished last Monday. But now, whenever I turn the heating on my entire house stinks of gloss and I find it hard to breath. Have tried putting cloths soaked on nice smelling stuff on them but the floss smell is stronger. Any ideas how I can minimise it?

Onions apparently cancel out the smell of paint fumes and/or absorb the smells.

I'd chop a few onions in half and dot them around the place.

I'm having exactly the same problem as I painted the hall in ultra-cheapo Homebase gloss last week and it REEKS!

I've tried the bowls of white vinegar. I've tried the bowls of onions in water thing - it made us all ill with the stench! I've also got a vanilla plug-in air freshener but it's not coping with combatting the smell. The windows are open I am bastard freezing but it's just not going away!

I talked to a chap in Homebase about the problem and he advised that I buy the quick dry/low odour paint next time. Helpful, not!

If anyone else has got any solutions, I'd be very grateful - I'll try anything as I'm sick of feeling sick!

I prefer a satinwood or eggshell on radiators. Not emulsion as dirt sticks to it.

I think you are just going to have to run the rads until all the smell has come off. It will die away after a while.

It might help to run it for an hour or more while you are out, with the boiler set quite high. On your return turn it down, and open all the doors and windows for a short time. Although you will lose the warm air, a lot more heat will have soaked into the walls and fabric of the house, and so when you shut the windows again, the air will warm up quite quickly.

How long have you been running the heating for? Days or weeks?
