Divan beds - what do you cover the base with?

I am just looking at getting some divan beds for teenagers bedrooms. I have always had slatted beds and mattresses before. What do you have to cover the inevitable pink/white brocade divan base that isn't a frilly valance or bit of sheet? Can you get a cover in more dark/plain/upholstery type fabric?

You don't have to cover the base of modern ones. They have fairly decent finishes.

I had to settle on a valance-couldn't find an alternative. Will be watchign this thread incase there is a better solution.

It might be secondhand (lightly used I hasten to add) so probably won't get to choose the finish.

I guess I could run something up on the sewing machine (bookmarks business idea).

I second smalltown box pleat valance.

Box pleat balance for me too. Looks modern as no frills. You can get bold colours or colours that match the duvet covers. See the sheet section here www.homespacedirect.com

All of mine have a box pleat valance as they have storage drawers underneath.

If they didn't have storage drawers then you can re-upholster them, you just need a trusty staple gun and some nice fabric.

I've got a faux suede divan wrap from Tesco direct. It's actually from Wayfair as I wanted 'linen' colour. Nice enough for £20.

I don't like valance sheets. There is something a bit Hyacinth Bucket about them. It reminds of when the Victorians had huge table cloths to hide the legs of tables.

I have never heard of divan wraps before, but they look much nicer than frilly valance sheets.
