Sticky table

We have a dining room table that came from MFI years ago, I'm not sure what wood it is made from. Anyway it is very sticky despite me wiping it and polishing it every day. If you put a bit of paper or magazine on there it sticks and rips half the paper off which is then stuck to the table.

What is the best thing to do?

table cloth?

Sand it and re varnish or wax. It's the old varnish or wax that you can feel. It's aged and needs replacing..
