And your house is very messy? The cleaning isn't so bad but we have a lot of clutter, so what should I concentrate on?

I usually hoover, clean loo and make everywhere smell fresh.

I am an anal minimalist so don't have a clutter problem, I wouldn't be able to sleep if I had any clutter Blush Thats not very helpful is it?! I would probably shove everything into black bags in a room they won't see and then itch for them to leave go through them when they have gone and take the lot to the charity shop!

Melindaaa · 18/09/2012 11:29

Presumably the visitors are coming o see you, and not your house? I wouldn't do anything different to any normal day.

PigletJohn · 18/09/2012 11:46

lower-wattage light bulbs.

I tend to get as much clutter onto shelves/in drawers as possible before people come round (or the bin if DH isn't around to make sure things are kept 'just in case') so it looks a bit more organised at least. then I Hoover, use febreeze everywhere, clean toilets and sinks. Make dcs take all toys to their room. And make sure there's no washing drying around the house.

Kitchen is generally tidy unless I've just cooked a meal so I might have a quick tidy if needed but thats not very often.

millionlovesongslater · 18/09/2012 11:52

Shove things into drawers or the bin

Hoover around with some shake 'n' vac

Wipe all of my bathroom over with Dettol

Put some wine in the fridge just in case

RichardsBird · 18/09/2012 11:53

Well if you have a lot of clutter - get rid of some of it! Fill a bin bag with rubbish now and put it in the wheelie bin. Take a bin bag full to the charity shop this afternoon. Go to the tip if you can.

Get all crap upstairs, dust and hoover, bleach down toilet,

Usually need a good couple of hours on kitchen.

Remove large grey knickers from radiators

Pascha · 18/09/2012 12:01

Quick clean/freshen of downstairs cloakroom.

Shove any tatpiles into the utility.
Beady eye over the kitchen and living room, remove empty cups etc.

Thats probably it. Toys, unless there are many all over the floor, are usually left out if they are in use.

Thanks everybody. Got a fair bit of tidying done yesterday. Have hoovered and bleached toilet, will have quick cup of coffee, then do some more until I have to pick up dd2 at 12.00.
