Smelly carpet after cleaning

Hi
We rented a rugdoctor at the weekend to clean our lovely one year old carpet (we've used it before on other carpets no problem) but it has left a horrid smell that came up a day or so after. The other carpets we cleaned are ok, the new one is thicker so took longer to dry.

I have googled and it seems fairly common if carpet gets overwet but the advice seems to be replace the padding Sad. I am trying everything (dehumidifier, open windows, bicarb soda) but has anyone had this and had the smell go away? Any other ideas?
Thanks

I had this problem years ago when my db gave me a loan of a rug doctor to clean my bedroom carpet. A few days later it smelt like wet dog even though it hadn't had a dog near it!

Sorry not to have good news but ours didnt recover. We had to replace it in the end as the wet dog smell was too much.

Sorry not to be the person with good news Thanks

I've just rung the rugdoctor helpline and they are going to give me some odor remover spray while they check the machine, hoping that that works and my house starts to smell less of smelly feet and wet dog!

Good luck i hope it recovers. So frustrating.

Thanks, it does smell better after the first spray, man on the helpline said could take up to 9 days of spraying to settle, so we'll see.
