Can I get cutlery marks off plates?

I have Denny plates and for some reason they are probe to being scratched by ordinary cutlery scraping. They get grey marks on them. Can I get rid of them or are we stuck? I resent the idea of changing my wedding present, buy once for a lifetime china even if it is ten years old.

I don't think you can get scratches out.

Could the grey be contact marks from aluminium pans or utensils? If so it is difficult to get off, but not impossible. Try a nylon scourer first. Cif or Barkeepers Friend will take them off but are abrasive so do it by grinding away the top layer of glaze.

Don't use bleach as after it has dried it will leave yellow stains under the glaze in any chips or cracks

Someone once told me that metal polish would do it but I have never tried it.
