Flooring for 2 year old's room?

Just about to set my mind to decorating DS new room - to make way for new baby arrival. He will be just 2 when he goes in there.
Currently has a good quality wood floor in the nursery - and the few times he is spectacularly vomited I have been very grateful for it.
However, the new room is considerably bigger and i'm thinking it might be a bit cold/stark with wood flooring. Don't know why but i'm not keen on a rug.
So, should I err with practicality and go for wood? Has anyone had a really hard-wearing carpet that has been ok with vomit, ink, chocolate stains etc?

What about carpet tiles? Then if any get stained you can replace them? You could even use a few colours and patchwork it up like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=carpet+tiles+kids+room&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&biw=1081&bih=619&tbm=isch&tbnid=R97fyco9PP5v1M:&imgrefurl=carpetstiles.net/%3Fp%3D82&docid=UVhu3_idIo7klM&itg=1&imgurl=www.carpettile.co.uk/clearance/images/pal-011.jpg&w=400&h=300&ei=y-JRUPrtLOip0QXGjIDgCg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=505&vpy=299&dur=3024&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=143&ty=179&sig=101450852458733953599&page=2&tbnh=133&tbnw=180&start=18&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:12,s:18,i:167" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">elmer Smile

What about rubber flooring with a rug? Can get a huge range of types?

Or an engineered wood floor - real wood over a layer of plywood? Feels nice under foot.
