Toilet keeps getting blocked?

We moved into a new place a month ago and already the toilet has been blocked three times. Each time I've managed to unblock it using a bowel or two of water and sometimes a coat hanger (delightful, I know).

We've stopped using quilted toilet paper and ate trying to use very little. Any ideas why this might be happening, or how we can prevent it?! It's driving me mad!

Is it a new build?

Either there is a problem with the fall - which prevents it flushing away properly, or maybe the toilet has a smaller flush than your old loo? I.e. less water comes out per flush.

No, not a new build.

It definitely has a rubbish flush - a single push on the flush will not get rid of all of toilet paper after a wee - you need to pump the handle a couple of times I find (and we are really trying to use only a couple of sheets per wee!)

Have you checked to see if it has one of those water saving devices in it?

Checked cistern - no water saving device. It is ridiculously small though - about half the size of a normal one ( it's boxed in so you can't tell without moving the panel).

We once had a very similar sounding problem. We got a plumber out and he couldn't find anything wrong but the problem continued so he came back. He ended up taking the down pipe off the outside of the house to remove a toilet cleaner cage thingy that had gone all the way round the u-bend and then stuck at the top of the down pipe. We hadn't even noticed it had gone missing!
