My lovely maple table...

I'm not naming names, but when I went to change the tablecloth I noticed marks. One looks like someone has attempted to polish it an not wiped the Mr Sheen in - so its like an elongated C shape of white stuff. If I scratch gently with my fingernail it comes off slightly but not completely. There are also a couple of patches where someone has spilled something and left it there - again like a white powdery residue.

Since the table cost more than my wedding dress and our first car together, does anyone have any ideas on how to get it off without scrubbing? I have suggested mixing it with blood but DH wasn't willing.
