Two Questions - Cooking and Storage

Hi

I am looking for a good freezer to oven option to make mini casseroles, stews, shepherds pies, lasagnes etc in for my toddler. I need to start batch cooking at weekends and want to make a couple of adult portions and then some small versions too. Doesn't have to be dishwasher or microwave safe.

I am also looking for a low cost set of small wicker baskets (sort of six but 12 inches?), JL wants £15 per basket and I want to have quite a few around the house. I am sure that there are some more reasonable ones out there I just don't seem to see them.

Many thanks

homebase, ikea and ebay are good bets for baskets.

Pyrex dishes are probably best for the freezer to oven things, the ones with sealable tops especially so. Sainsbury's sells them. The aren't pretty but they last for years.

thanks for the ideas. Went to homebase but they had nothing in stock - we also ended up having a bit of a set to about paint so perhaps another day!

Will check out the sainsburys pyrex dishes - I think I need about 6

Argos have wicker baskets in the sale - £4.99 - they have lids and are fab! Can't link as I'm on phone - sorry!

What about ramekins for freezer to oven?

Slatternismymiddlename · 01/09/2012 12:27

Am I being ditzy- I thought you couldnt put glass (Pyrex or ramekins) in the freezer as they would shatter?

I use those Ikea plastic children's bowls for my batch cooking individual portions.

I use sistema boxes and zip lock bags for bigger stuff like bolognese.

Then, oven to table wear from asda (cheap) for pies, lasagnas etc..

I was going to say Argos, DDs keep all their Wii games and controllers in them.

Pound shops and similar also have baskets.

Pyrex with plastic lids are great.

Eat lots of chineese take awayGrin ours comes in strong reusable boxes. Microwave rather than oven.

One portion freezer to oven dishes are going to be expensive if you want many.

Pyrex is freezer safe, as far as I know only pyrex is freezer and oven safe.

Pryrex with lids are are available in Asda, Morrisons, and Dunelm, although not all sizes are everywhere. I use them a lot.
