Vacuum cleaners

I need a new vacuum cleaner as my Dyson expired this afternoon with a whimper and a burning smell. Any recommendations? I've heard Miele are good, and a cousin swears by Sebo (which I'd never actually heard of before she started on).

Miele and sebo win all which type surveys.
Both have upright and cylinders.
Both have bags so factor that in if you Hoover a lot it will be more expensive.
I personally LOVE my Miele cylinder. Light and practical. Cat dog version is must for animals in house (or girls with long hair)

Sebo is heavy. MIL has one, and whilst clever, gives me backache.

I got a Sebo 6 months ago - I'm in love with it! It's not that heavy (and I'm five foot nothing and over 65 Smile) So easy to manoevre - it's almost power driven, and bags last ages.

I have a Miele and a Henry both are amazing. Miele are expensive but I got mine from John Lewis on price match.

Sebo is great, and upright model folds down flat to go under beds etc. It's not light, but certainly no heaver than my Mk 1 Dyson which was made in UK and lasted 10 yrs. Sebo is at least made in the EU (wouldn't buy Dyson again since they moved production from Wiltshire to Malaysia).
