How do I clean discoloured silver jewellery?

I have several rings which are silver but have gone brownish. I don't think it is rust but just tarnished iyswim.

Is there an 'old wives' trick that will clean them or any special cleaning products?

anything acidic will do it, vinegar, etc. Drop them submerged in a little cup to soak for a while. buff with a lint free cloth. a soft toothbrush can clean out stuff that gets caught in crevaces.

if they are really bad you can use some toothpaste on a toothbrush, but if they are highly polished this may dull them a bit.

There's a product called Goddard's Silver Dip. Costs a couple of quid in most supermarkets and lasts forever. Just immerse jewellery in the dip and then buff with a cloth. Magic stuff - just don't use for coral etc as it will dissolve.

Thank you Smile I knew there would be a solution other than chucking them away Grin
