I didn't knoooow! Quick google and I do now. It's rusty.

Can anyone help me? From google I understand I need to wash in water, dry, coat in oil (any oil) and heat at hot temp for 1-3 hours. Will this do? I am staying with someone and trying to be helpful.

I think aga cookware is expensive and I have no money... Sad

if it is plain black iron (not enamelled) rub off any orange rust marks with a nylon pan scourer. It probably doesn't need washing again. Rub it all over, inside and out, with cooking oil on kitchen roll (you will see the surface darken) and polish it off with dry kitchen roll so it does not look greasy.

If the owner had previously seasoned it with a thick layer of burned-on fat, tell them what you've done and they might want to do it again, but they will have their own way of doing it. They might like to clean it after use by rubbing with paper rather than washing it, but you don't know their preferred method until they tell you.

You have not damaged or ruined the pan, it's just not the right way to clean it.
