I need your carpet cleaning tips!

I am renting a house that has cream carpets.
I have 3 kids.
I think you understand.
I would love to hire professional carpet cleaners but I am on a very tight budget, so elbow grease is what I got to work with. Today I used 1001 Troubleshooter Ultra spray and it has damaged it (black stains where I scrubbed!!!) Help?

We have cream carpets so I understand your pain. I've got my own carpet shampoo machine, but that won't help you.

The best product I found was RugDoctor Traffic Lane Cleane

sorry hit the wrong button

Here's a link to it, but you can buy from Johnsons Cleaners and most places that rent out the machines, but you don't need a machine to use it.

It's brilliant. I was amazed as it brought up the really dirty bits on the carpet like new.

I'd clean the worst off and save up to either hire a machine or get a company in at the end of your tenancy.

Hiring the rug doctor is £20. They do want you to use their stupid overpriced cleaner (£10 for a little bottle £20 for a big one!) but I always tell them "no, it's ok, I have some left from last time" and buy a bottle of persil small and mighty and that brings up my carpets a treat.

My living room carpet is also cream.

Re the stains - can you test a hidden bit with a weak solution of bleach? My living room carpet can take bleach but some can't. If they can, then that can help brighten them.

Have a look at Groupon - I've just bought 300 sq ft of pro carpet cleaning (or two rooms and a hallway) for £24 which I thought was a bargain. Done it before and the results are incredible. Might be worth a look.

We tried Rugdoctor, it didn't get our particular stains up (Calpol splats, potty training near-misses, oh the hell!!!), but I'm off to Groupon now, thanks!
