fruit fly invasion HELP

i discovered a bag with a rotting banana in it and as i moved it a cloud fruit flies swarmed out.
its been 48 hours of swatting the little blighters and still they swoop down on everything the dcs eating
dd1 has asthma so fly spray isnt guna save me

anyone got a good idea beffore i go right round the twist?

Get the dyson out, it's the only way to deal with them.

Yes, you can get rid of them. We did the following a few weeks ago...

Do NOT leave any food or standing water (in a sink for example) around at any time. They like stagnant water as well as food. Fruit in fridge, wipe sides after preparing food, clear plates away immediately etc.

Trap them. Get a jam jar, put some cling film on the top with a couple of small holes. Put some ripe slices of banana inside. They'll get in but not out.

Drown them. Mug of orange or apple juice, bit of fruit floating in it, they'll all commit fly suicide in it.

Took us about 3 days but no more problems.
