Houshold ins. claim on hall carpet- will this include the stairs?

We have a bleach type stain in the hall which happens to be about a foot or 2 from the bottom of the stairs. I was recently made aware that when claiming on a "set" ie 3 piece suite, generally the insurance companies will only replace the damaged one not the whole set so basically you may end up with odd sofas. We have made a claim on the carpet and as I've never done this before I wondered if you had any experience- do you think they will only replace the hall and not the stair carpet? It's all the same one but do you think they could see it as 2 separate pieces and not replace it.....?

It will depend on the wording of your policy. What does it say? Is the same carpet no longer available?

I would think they would replace the whole lot, unless you can find an exact match.

Thanks, I'm away from home just now but will re-check.
