Shoe Storage

Can anyone suggest some options for shoe storage in my small squarish hallway. We are just in the process of re-decorating and up until this week, shoes were just chucked in a pile at the bottom of the stairs. I have a space of about 65cm long by 30cm depth (no real limit on height but not something too tall).

I have two young DD's who have probably 2 or 3 pairs each, DH tends to have his work boots (big and chunky) and a pair of trainers and then my shoes (anything between 3/4 pairs). I will streamline and move some of the unworn shoes upstairs.

How do you store your shoes?

We have a 'slimline' shoe cabinet from ikea attached to the wall in our tiny hallway. Not sure they do that exact thing now but take a look on their website and you should be able to see what might fit. :)

Today I noticed that a wine-rack unit left over from the kitchen fitting, will take a shoe in each of the pigeonholes. I am putting it in the corner by the front door to give it a try.

You could custom make something to fit the space exactly. B&Q will cut pieces of MDF to size for you and it's very cheap. Then you just need to put it all together and paint it. You can't tell it's MDF once it's painted.

I had a shoe cupboard made this way, with a door, which holds about 40 pairs of shoes and it's great.

Ive a nice ottoman (cheap from Dunelm Mill) that doubles as shoe storage and a seat for DS when getting him ready to go out.

if you check out Next home, I have just got a seat with shoe storage in a white/cream vintage look, also got the wall organiser for keys and such to go above it. Its neat and looks the part. One thing is the storage is pull out boxes which the paint flakes off if you drag it in and out rather than lifting it.

I have a old steamer trunk (bought it in a rusted condition and cleaned it up and polished the wood, beautiful now)

It holds all our shoes even DH's Military Boots, and is strong enough to sit on to put boots on.

it is like this but was much cheaper as was in bad condition

Shoshe - I used to have one of those and a mini (tuck box) one - if I'd have known how useful/expensive they would become later in my life I would have kept instead of selling at a carboot years ago for pennies Sad
