Advice please on wet vacuums

No idea if that's what they are called. My carpets are filthy. They are hoovered once a week using a Miele cat and dog hair vac but recently I hired one of those industrial wet vacs and it helped. Is there a good domestic equivalent that is reasonably priced?

We paid £160-180 for our Vax carpet washer. It's worth every penny. We have five children, a dog and a cream front room carpet. I use the Vax at least once a week and it's just amazing how dirty our carpet gets.

you can hire a Rug Doctor from time to time, but if you need your own, a Vax carpet washer is good.

I have a wet and dry vac which I have used on wet carpets after burst pipes, but a Vax will be better.

"Which" tested them recently (read it at your local library)

The Bex Bissell Bissell AromaPro Upright Deep Cleaner at £170 came out top, but may be withdrawn by now.

The Vax Dual V V-124 upright carpet washer at £180 was next

The Vax Rapide Ultra 2 W90-RU-P at £137 was fourth

Third and fifth were two other Bex, but much dearer than the Vax.

If you get one, try the astonish carpet cleaner. I'm really impressed with astonish products and they are cruelty free and cheap in homebargains too.

MIL wont let me use them in her vax incase it invalidates the warranty.

We have a numatic George and it is excellent. It is a wet and dry and switches between the two so easily. We also have a Hetty too and DH uses a Henry at work. It picks up wet and dry and even rubble!

We had a vax dual v but we had problem after problem. It leaked, they sent new parts. It still leaked, so they collected it and returned it still leaking! Eventually we got a refund and got the George. I sometimes use a drop of Zoflora in the water to freshen the carpets.
