Another curtain question...

victoriassponge · 12/08/2012 20:32

Am I missing something here?
MIL has kindly made me some lovely curtains.
Decided to hang them on wooden poles with wooden rings. But can't get them to hang evenly and you can see the metal hooks that we've attached to the top tape. Any suggestions for the best way to hang them greatly appreciated...??

How thick is the top tape - for poles you need the one with three strips IYKWIM and attach the hooks to the bottom one, so the curtain covers the hooks and the gap to the pole

Thanks for the speedy response. Will check out my top tape!
Also wondering what kind of hooks are best - to link the top tape to the rings... ours are made from metal..

Sorry for the huge link! These are the hooks we have - wondering if they are the best to use for this purpose...?

I use these as I got hold of a huge box of them ages ago.

It sounds like you have 3" tape on the top of the curtains. Are they floor length? Anyway, if you can put the curtain hooks on the middle loops.

Make sure the curtain tape is pulled in nice and evenly so that each tape is just over half the width of your window (i.e when you draw the curtains they just meet in the middle with a small amount to overlap). You should tidy up the left over string and do a slip knot in case you ever need to put the curtains on another window or have them dry cleaned.

Size6feet · 17/08/2012 01:25

Metal curtain hooks are best as they withstand temperature changes and dont go brittle as the plastic ones eventually do.

The trick is to space them evenly along the tape.

So, starting with the end that will be in the middle of the window when closed, insert a hook into every 5th pocket and continue along to the outer edge. Then insert one on the very end.
Dont put the hooks through the string (as some people do).

Doing it this way you may either have to buy more pole rings or remove some of the pole rings.

I always have to give the eyelet on the pole rings a few extra turns to make sure its screwed all the way in.

As Camels says - never put a knot in the end of the strings - wind it round a bit of card and tuck it into the tape so that it can be opened out for future cleaning etc.

Thanks size6.
Just wondering how to stop metal hook from showing - whatever i do it seems to hang down between the wooden ring and the curtain...

Hi victoria I just clicked on your link for the curtain hooks. The ones that came up are not for curtains, I'm afraid.

See camels link for the correct shape ones. Either plastic or metal will do the job.

HTH.

Hi Size 6 - thanks for that! I was thinking they seemed a bit odd (DH bought them Hmm).
Will get some like camel's and try again!
Watch this space...
