Simple on this......

What's the best way to keep lettuce fresh?

Wash it all? Keep it whole? Put it in a box?

Do tell?

i wash the lettuce ,put it in a plasticbag with a few drops cold water and spin the top shut .it will keep for a few days in the fridge

I now buy hydroponic lettuce, they come with roots on in a plastic container - mine keep for a week in the fridge. I'm in New York - not sure if you get them in the uk, but are bloody brilliant.

I saw something on super scrimpers the other day and they recommeded putting a sheet of kitchen roll in with your fruit and veg, apparently is absorbs the stuff they emit that makes them go off and keeps the food fresher for longer, i have yet to try it out though. :)

The kitchen towel tip does work, for lettuce at least.

Kitchen towel.....I'll try it!

Many thanks x

Yes we wash, separate, dry and pop in a bowl with a tea towel on top keeps for about a week.

Keep in salad spinner.

Keep it in a Stayfresh bag.

Same system as IWanders, only loosely wrapped in kitchen towel then plastic bag, keeps well and virtually instant.
