Fruit/veg waste-recycling?

Can we put this in the garden waste bin? (We've never had a garden before, so never had the bin before Grin) DH thinks not as it's supposed to be just for grass cuttings etc. I don't see the difference between grass and an orange skin, for instance...am I missing something?

Next on the list to get my head around is composting, but that's for another day!

It depends where you live and the contract your district council has with their recyclers. We put all food waste (inc chicken bones etc) in our garden bin because it is now anerobically composted. However it used to be ONLY garden waste because things like orange peel are kitchen waste and 'contaminated' Confused. So log on to your district council web site to see what they say.

we have a brown bin that is just for garden waste and we are not allowed to put anything else in it. We dont have food waste recycling in this area (west of scotland)
