Fingerprints on flat matt painted walls ARGGH

Yes, we were stupid to paint our period house with period flat matt colours but it seemed like a good idea at the time - and it does look fab! But with 4DCs and hundreds of their friends charging up and down our stairs we keep getting greasy hand marks on the wall. (Why can't kids just use a bannister?! But that's a different thread.)
Is there anyway I can keep removing them without ruining my lovely walls, killing the DCs or repainting the whole house in silk?!

Try a damp - not soaking - cloth and sugar soap (can be bought from B and Q).
It worked for me even on cheap, painted wallpaper which had been stained with God knows what by our plumber.

you can repaint them with the same matt from time to time. With practice I'm sre you will get quite good at it. Putting down the sheets before, and cleaning your roller and brushes after, will take longer than the painting.

You need to paint the entire wall or the fresh patch will look different. But you do not have to paint all of the walls.

A damp sponge will take drips off the skirting etc.

Water paint in a plastic tub seals tight and lasts well, but I'd suggest getting an mixer that fits an electric drill, if it is not perfectly stirred every time the colour will vary.

Thanks Piglet but we've got the repainting off to a fine art! Now I just need to keep it fingerprint free...

have you tried a magic eraser? they seem to get everything off anything in this house!
