Are my soaked leather shoes ruined?

My favourite leather pumps got absolutely drenched at the beginning of the week. They are still very wet and now smell really bad. Can they be saved? How can I save them?

When my other non-leather shoes get soaked or a bit whiffy I put them in the washing machine but not sure if these would survive the experience.

I did put my leather sandals in the washing machine when my waters broke on them. They did come out ok but I only wear them as slippers though.

Maybe I should give it a go then. They're pink though so should probably go in by themselves Grin

you can dry leather shoes or gloves out by packing to shape with rolled paper or kitchen roll (not newspaper as the ink will stain) and putting them in the fridge for a week or more. It will dry out the water and prevent mould growth and stink. Use a leather polishing cream when they come out to moisturise the leather.

This is true!

Aaaah, good thread.

My DS wore his Clarks waterproof boots last weekend - note to DS, if you go through water deeper than your boots your feet and boots will get wet.

So now they stink.

I'm going to Febreze them and stuff them with paper.

(They aren't getting near my fridge or washing machine) Grin

Great, thanks! I'll go and stuff them with paper...not sure about putting them in the fridge though...won't they make the fridge smell?

if they are already wet and already smell, I suppose you can wash them first.
