The bottom pan of my steamer (given to me by my late granddad) is totally black, anyway of getting the burntness off?

Try soaking overnight in a biological washing liquid solution.

Or better still, bring the pan to the boil with the washing powder and water, then turn off the heat and leave overnight.

You can use some bicarbonate of soda and an old damp rag to try and scrub off the black. Hope you can save it!

Try Astonish paste cleaner, tis very good for this.

I echo using bio washing powder (not liquid), but use it dry, especially if there is anything burnt onto the pan. This lifts off burnt items (I don't know why, but it works like a dream!)
