How much does it cost to do a load of washing?

I have no sewage for the foreseeable future and can only do washing at a friend's house, as washing machine will not drain. Want to pay her enough to cover the cost of an average 40C load. Any ideas how much that should be? Just electricity, not water or detergent.

Any water saving tips also welcome - am putting bowl in kitchen sink and emptying into a bucket, banning baths and showers and washing DD's hair at the swimming pool (although that will be the hardest to achieve - she hates shampoo in showers).

how are you flushing your loo?

what's wrong with the sewage system?

LaBelleDameSansPatience · 16/07/2012 23:23

Sewage system is just flooded. Nowhere for the water to drain and it still keeps raining. Have ruled that loo is onlt to be flushed once a day or it just won't go down

can you move somewhere for else for a bit? Have you checked your house insurance you might be covered.

Hadn't thought of house insurance. It hasn't rained (yet) today, so toilet flushed this morning, as the water level went down by an inch or so. Not going to provoke it by flushing again for a while! Or washing clothes, showering, etc. Luckily it is swimming this afternoon. DH washed in a bowl of water in the kitchen this morning and emptied the bowl outside and rather enjoyed it - it reminded him of his childhood. Smile We have nice friends with washing machines and showers, too, who luckily for them live on slopes.

You need to talk to the water company, the sewer system needs to be able to cope,

I recommend using lots of concentrated disinfectant around any drains and manhole covers, if the drains are bursting,

I hope it gets sorted.
