We have two weeks - move the 28th July from rental into our very own house. Hope your move goes well!

Got a letter from letting agency today to say that they would be charging us a £60 check out fee. We have to apparently steam clean the carpets with a professional steam cleaner (even though we haven't had pets) and we also have been 'warned' that domestic cleaning is not of the same standard as domestic cleaning and so penalties will be charged should the house not meet the agencies 'high standards'.

It was a sh*tole when we moved in the cheeky beggars. But even so it will be a lot of work to ensure we don;t get fined even though house is usually pretty clean.

Trying to work out how much time (hours) I need to clean a 4 bed house. Kitchen and 2 ensuites, family bathroom and cloakroom - dining room, living room and study.

littleducks · 14/07/2012 20:23

Ooh fellow movers!!
We get keys to new house next Friday, man and van booked for Sunday whilst keys to here we keep till 31st. Do we do have time, sort of.

Today I have been packing my wardrobe up mostly into vacumn storage bags (very satisfying watching it shrink!).

We have cleaner booked for new house next week (paid for by new letting agency) but I'm not sure if she will clean to my standard. Not that I'm house proud by other peoples dirt is much more yucky.

It was horrid when we moved in here but I expect current landlord remembers it differently as he already asked me to clean the dust off the extractor fan to show agents round Blush. Though it wouldn't be dusty if the blooming thing worked properly Wink.

So how's the packing going?

ethelb · 14/07/2012 20:39

We just did vacuum storage bags! So much fun I'm getting some more tomorrow.

Packing not too bad most if it's done.

Just wondering about how the hell to make sure the professionally cleaned carpets don't get marked by removal men's wet shoes on Monday Sad

However I can SEE into my oven. Though oven lady had to leave the stuff on after she left for us to wash off later as it was so encrusted Blush

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 14/07/2012 21:59

Our oven is a job for tomorrow.

I figure if I can do all the 'big' jobs like ovens, fridge, toilets, bath etc (did the shower last weekend) then I can leave the steam cleaning of carpets until the afternoon of the move when DH and the removals firm go to the new house and I can do the carpets and start cleaning every room.

Mum2Fergus · 14/07/2012 22:02

Put cardboard down to protect your clean carpets Smile

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 14/07/2012 22:08

btw viakal is amazing on any limescale!

littleducks · 15/07/2012 08:42

Are you military doing a march out or just far more thorough than me? I have had a vague list of: pack stuff, ckean new house, have man carry stuff across, clean old house, unpack. Hadn't really thought about the oven Blush.

isw · 15/07/2012 08:50

Oh my goodness, we are also moving. Get the keys to new place on 25th and have to be out of here by the 30th and I haven't done anything. Panics wildly, you guys sound v organised!
Actually I have organised a cleaner as we have been hit with the same letting agency nonsense. Seriously it is a 2 bed unfurnished, laminate floored flat, how can we not clean it well enough.
Little ducks my list is a bit like yours ...

ethelb · 15/07/2012 09:42

I have to do oven due to letting agents sending us a four page cleanliness specification. Here's hoping our new place us as clean.

SuePurblybilt · 15/07/2012 09:49

Me too! Hopefully on the 5th August so I have longer but I have inspections tomorrow and am mostly packed as there's a holiday in between. I will hoover my way out of the door, leaving a house ONE MILLION times cleaner and better than I found it. I will move into a shit-hole - if past moves are anything to go by Grin.

Ah well. Today's list is to clean all floors, tidy all stuff left unpacked and do lawns/outside if it ever stops raining. I may go as far as doing the windows.
The oven is on the list but not yet, I have my Oven Pride ready though. It'll be the first time I've cleaned it in two years, other than a vague wipe of the inside. But I barely use it - I knew my lack of cooking skills would pay off.

littleducks · 15/07/2012 09:56

I am horrified at a 4 page list, but suppose at least it is clear expectations I have no idea of current LLs standard.. Seems he expects it cleaner than when we moved in. Angry

LL is employing agents to let property after we leave, that has been fun Wink. Only one person turned up for the 'open house' who said his main priority was a dishwasher (don't have one). Agent explained that LL would let them plumb one in etc. huge surprise to me as LL said we couldn't have one!

Whole viewing fell apart when I pointed out the things that were mine and would be leaving with me Grin Agent thought a table in the kitchen was 'built in' and was shocked I was taking it with me!!

SuePurblybilt · 15/07/2012 10:51

Built in table? Grin. That reminds me of that MN thread where someone had loads of plants in pots and took them when she moved - the new tenant made such a fuss that the Mner wanted to either give her the plants or give her some money to get her own . I can't remember the outcome, I hope she didn't.

They always expect it cleaner than when you move in. It seems I am doomed to leave clean, freshly painted houses behind me and arrive to new houses to be greeted by other people's filth. I'm not at all sure how that works.

Mum2Fergus · 15/07/2012 11:07

Given that I hope to buy in the next 6 months Im off to dig out current lease...may need to start cleaning today lol

ethelb · 15/07/2012 13:32

Just defrosted freezer. Is it the done thing to offer removal men a drink? Do I need to go and get them something? Tea us off as are cold drinks obv

OP posts:
SuePurblybilt · 15/07/2012 15:09

I always do, and biscuits! But if you can't, you can't.

ethelb · 15/07/2012 17:41

Flagging. At near divorce with dp. Going to order Dominos and tackle kitchen floor.

Dp is asking how many of you would check the top of the kitchen cabinets? They are pretty gross.

OP posts:
littleducks · 15/07/2012 18:56

I covered mine in newspaper when we moved in two years ago, do intend to just whip that off Wink. Nobody ever seems to have cleaned them on any house I have moved into certainly.

SuePurblybilt · 15/07/2012 19:29

I give mine a wipe when I paint. Baby wipes are the thing - give 'em a quick once over.

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 15/07/2012 20:20

The whole thing about damn letting agents annoys me as when we moved in the kitchen cupboards were worthy but I will wipe over with baby wipes when we move

SuePurblybilt · 18/07/2012 17:48

How is everyone getting on? I am pretty much packed but still in chaos.

Trying to book removers is fun. How do they expect you to give them an accurate number of boxesbefore you're packed?

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 19/07/2012 11:43

We have our completion date set in stone (27th).

We have a firm of removers visit, quote and employed them

I have taken a car load to the dump, and another car load to the charity shop. I have not so much as lifted a finger on packing yet.

I am quite scared.

littleducks · 19/07/2012 14:47

Yesterday I was nearly in fits of tears, agency employed cleaners to do new house and they did a shitty job.....we get keys tomorrow and there is a whole load of cleaning ahead. New carpets etc is very nice though.

I have packed and packed. Now run out of boxes! An dreading Sunday when removal men come.

Really could care less about current place atm, but there are lots of viewings. We have keys till 31st so am planning to clean and fix here once everything has gone.

SuePurblybilt · 19/07/2012 17:52

Don't TALK to me about quotes from removers. I'm all packed - quote to move it (2 bedder) 18 miles? £545. Bargain.
I am moving out on the 31st but removers coming on the 4th.

Good luck on the 27th! And Sunday. Homebase is the place for boxes - really strong ones.

littleducks · 19/07/2012 22:39

OMG Sue, thats crazy!

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 20/07/2012 09:14
