Scratches on wooden floor - Help!

My Dad's just moved house and has what the estate agent described as Engineered Oak flooring downstairs. I can't tell what sort of laminate/flooring this is as I can't find any edges visible and no spare scraps were left over.

Anyway, it has a fairly matte finish...The removal men managed to scratch it quite badly in places by dragging stuff over it. One chair, we discovered, had castors that weren't just wheels, they had a sort of band round the wheel which chewed up the floor badly. Even his cleaner moving the ironing board left quite a mark.

What is the best way of removing these marks please?

Sand and varnish.

Engineered oak is sheets of ply glued and topped with oak.

Id you do not seal it and it gets wet, it will stain permanently. ( black)

Oh yes and some varnish is oil and some not to add to the confusion.

Thanks, should we use the oil based varnish or the non-oil based then?
