We have always used the gas boiler rather than the electric immersion heater. I assume that DH thinks its cheaper!
Electric storage heaters are thought to be an expensive way to heat a house, so would assume its an expensive way to heat water?

I've anyways assumed gas is cheaper, but no idea why!

Gas is cheaper to run than electric immersion...if u mean an immersion. Do not heat the house this way! your bills will be through the roof!

gas. About half the price of electricity.

only exception is if you have an old gas boiler with a cast-iron heat exchanger that takes a long time to heat the cylinder, and you only want a sinkful.

And make sure your cylinder, and ther hot pipes, are very well insulated.
