There is evidence that a slug has been in the house -yuck

On the carpet at the patio doors ther is a (small) trail of that silvery stuff that slugs leave behind. Outside the window on the patio there is a small amount.
The patio doors ahven't been opened since we had all that sun way back in May. There is no sign of the slug actually int he house and the trail isn't anywhere else. But how the hell has it got in?

Is there anything I can buy to stop it getting again

Would salt work?

Salt does work, and they can get in through the smallest hole.

If it makes you feel any better: yesterday I found a dead rat in the airing cupboard. It is not making me feel any better however, still feel sick!

I'd go with salt too by the way, good luck.

Ok thanks. its a married quarter I am in so probably full fo holes and definately has ill fitting doors!
I will put salt down along the doorway tonight and see if that stops them. Thankfuly there doesn't seem to be any evidence of them getting in elsewhere, I don't want them in the kitchen due to teh dog sleeping tehre, don't want him eating them!

Horopu - OMG rats are my worst nightmare. I think I'd pass out on the spot if I found one.
I just hate slimy things too and the thought of them crawling over stuff, yuck.

I am also being plagued by flies - I think it is becasue of the farm and cows, but they seem immune to teh hideous fly papers I have up all over the house

I am really sorry to say this but we have lived in our house for 8 years now and inherited slugs from our predecessors and we still haven't got rid of them. Salt works to keep them away but unless you leave it down the feckers come back. And bring their mates. And have babies.

Yes they get in through the tiniest gap (had them in the lounge by the patio doors too and there is nowhere for them to get in and yet they still did). I reckon they get in through pipes too in the kitchen.

Well I put salt down last night everywhere along the door frame, skirting board etc and there is evidence again today that they have been in. I have looked all round the door frame and it is tight in it's frame, I cannot see any gap at all.

They have been all over the toy box I have on the floor, which is for mindees to play with and now I've had to wash the bloody lot

Ugh.

I had that at my old house, slug trails by the front door - Ihad a porch built on and there were no more slugs. Bit drastic though.

In our current house I have seen one or two trails in the past year - but we just lay a line of salt on the outside of the door which seems to have worked. Althoug our garden is mostly peppered with slug pellets anyway...

Wear slippers in a morning until you get it sorted out though Grin

slug pellets work.
