Does it have to be a roomba? Are any other brands decent? And most importantly, do they get right up to the edges?

Bump

I have a roomba and it is the best domestic item I have! It has little brushes that swing out to reach into corners and can bump up and down rugs without any problems.

clemetteattlee · 02/07/2012 13:29

Thanks for replying. Which version do you have? I wondered if it would right up to the baseboards in my kitchen as that is where crumbs accumulate in my house. Also does it pick up pet hairs do you know?

Not sure about pet hairs as I don't have any pets, but it definitely gets all the crumbs in my kitchen. It glides under the cupboards and then lightly bounces off the baseboards. I set mine off everyday while I am on the school run. It's so nice to come back to a crumb-free house. I also put the chairs on our dining room table at the end of each day and then all the inevitable crumbs from dinner get swept up. I think mine is the 530 and I have had it for about 4 years now.

Brilliant - thank you!

Is it worth paying extra for the more expensive versions or is the basic model enough? I would only want to use it downstairs and probably not use the preset functions. I am thinking I would just shut in in a room and push the button.

Anypointinseeingdoc · 03/07/2012 18:15

I won't be using that function!

wifeofdoom · 03/07/2012 18:18

I have a roomba - genuinely the best labour saving gadget bar dishwasher and washing machine. I love it!

clemetteattlee · 03/07/2012 18:49

Which model do you have?

Anypointinseeingdoc · 03/07/2012 18:58

Yes, which models have you all got? Sorry, Clement, I am hovering over your thread and threatening to hijack it, but I can't help myself.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 03/07/2012 19:00

We have the Roomba 700 (we call it Brian) it's ace, we too put chairs up on the table so it can clean up after dinner! :)
Ours goes off on its merry way every day at 8am, the kittens aren't fond of it but it I'd do worth it, carpets are cleaned better than with the Dyson and it docks itself do I always know where to find it. Smile

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 03/07/2012 19:09

I have the roomba 555. Yes, it picks up cats hair no problem.
Yes, it cleans right up to the edge and picks up more dust than my dyson.

I just need someone to invent something to do stairs now!

clemetteattlee · 03/07/2012 20:12

Will it go from tiles to carpet to Lino without a problem?

OP posts:
SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 03/07/2012 20:33

Are all the different floor surfaces at about the same level? Or what's between them? It should do.

clemetteattlee · 03/07/2012 22:49

Just the normal threshold bars. Probably about 4mm high...

OP posts:
SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 03/07/2012 22:53

Oh yeah he (for it is a he) will manage that no problem!
