Washing Machine door won't open.

It's a 10 year old Indesit that has broken down at least once a year every single year, but it has never broken down like this. My best sheet is trapped inside it too :(. I have tried resetting the machine and turning off the switch and no luck.

Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

Can you put it on a short spin or drain setting?
It might then automatically carry on and release the lock.

Thanks, but it was on a drying setting, and the handle just came off in my hand :(.

Oooops. Sorry. I have super glued my tumble dryer back together on more than one occasion. But it tends to break with the door open.

if you can find the instruction manual, it may describe how to open the door in an emergency.

I have decided to bite the bullet and get a new washing machine. My budget is £300. Recommendations, please, lovely MNetters.

with washing machines, I say get a Bosch (or Miele if you can afford it)

£300 is quite low for a good brand, but see what you can find on offer (e.g. a last-years model on clearance)

Looking at Which best buys, round about £300, I see

Bosch WAE24166GB Classixx at about £314 from Tesco Direct, which I should think is a good buy. (£409 at Debenhams) There are some other brands that scored higher, but I don't have experience of the other brands.

In their sale, John Lewis has a Bosch Maxx WAB240606GB on special offer at £299 with a 2-year warranty. It has not been tested by Which. Have a look at their websites.

Siemens are usually a bit more expensive, but you might see one on offer. BSG (Bosch Siemens Householdappliances) is the company that designs and builds them, it is jointly owned by Bosch and Siemens and apart from the name badge, the appliances are often very similar.

I have a beko which was pretty cheap, but I use it every day and I've had it for 4 years with no problems. Pretty decent quick washes and spin cycle etc too.

Thanks for the info, guys. Pigletjohn,I was wondering about a Bosch already, but I wasn't sure I could afford one on my budget, so that's great :). I have never had a problem with my Bosch dishwasher, in just over six years.
