Clear storage boxes with lids?

I'm looking for the above, to store things on shelves in the garage.

They dont have to be strong but I'd like cheap - so while really useful would be fine, they're a bit OTT. It's essentially so that DH can see what goes where and I can label them in marker (so battery charger, lightbulbs, string, tape etc).

Lids aren't essential I guess, but would be nice to prevent spider crawling

Anyone seen such a fabled item?

Wilkinsons are usually cheapest, unless Tesco have them on special offer. As they are translucent you can write a felt-tip label on paper and put it inside the front. It will not get rubbed off or damaged and you can read it through the plastic. You can also see through to the contents.

You can buy them mail-order but it seems to work out dearer.

Make sure the lid is included.

They have multiple sizes. The Underbed size is not usually too heavy to lug around or carry into the loft. Make a very careful note of the dimensions as you need to keep getting the same size so they will stack safely. I find a stack taller than me is unstable. The folding blue lids are not as strong as the one-piece transucent clip-on lids.

If you are putting clothes away, put a moth-killer strip, card or small hanger with Transfluthrin in each crate. It gives off a tiny amount of vapour so will only work in a closed container or a wardrobe, where it can build up and will kill eggs, larvae and adults. It is very depressing to open a crate of clothes anf have a flock of moths fly out.

PestoSandalissimos · 22/06/2012 12:35

Costco

mirpuppet · 23/06/2012 08:21

I got some small ones at poundland this week.

Zara1984 · 23/06/2012 08:22

I like Ikea ones as they are not expensive and they stack really well!

Itsjustafleshwound · 23/06/2012 08:23

Ikea - lots of choice of sizing, lids and are cheap.

As long as you are single minded when shopping ....

Chocchip88 · 23/06/2012 08:25

I got some in Dunelm recently, fairly sturdy, tight fitting lid, lots of sizes. I got 4 of the smaller ones for my nail varnish collection Smile

We get ours from Poundstretcher.

Itchywoolyjumper · 23/06/2012 20:14

We got ours from one of those wee shops with mops and buckets outside on the pavement.

bigbadbarry · 23/06/2012 20:15

Mine came from tesco

TheHouseofMirth · 23/06/2012 20:20

Definitely Ikea (and I speak as someone who would rather gnaw off their own hands than go there)

these are cheap, sturdy, very transparent and come in a good range of sizes, with or without lids.

ClaireDeTamble · 23/06/2012 20:21

Samla at Ikea

tassisssss · 23/06/2012 20:22

3 for a tenner in our pound stretcher. I bought for school and have bought more for home and keep thinking of more uses for them!
