mouldy straw - a way to get it clean or throw away

dc has one of those plastic drink containers with spiral straw.

after a few weeks in the cupboard there are a few black mouldy spots inside.

is there a way of cleaning it or should I better through it out?

have you got a dishwasher?

you can clean this sort of thing with denture tabs, but for the cost of a new one...

If it was properly clean and dry I wonder how it got mouldy?

great, it's soaking in hot denture-tablet-water. if that doesn't work I will through it out.
I usually don't do any dishes as that's dh's job, I guess it just wasn't dry before being put away.
