I have just bough a dishwasher (from a local shop that price matched and delivered a day and a half later!!).

Narrowed it down to two brands bosch and miela. Ended up with a Miela because it came with a 5 year guarantee as standard and apparently will carry on going for about 15 years! It is the most basic one that they do, but it is still fantastic.

The Bosch that I nearly bought was the cheapest one that they did with an all metal inside, some are plastic inside and don't last as well apparently...not sure what the model number was but I read loads of reviews (really exciting life here).

we have a Bosch Logixx machine and are very happy with it. It is super quiet and has a cutlery tray at the top of the machine that frees up space in the bottom rack of the machine.

badgeroncaffeine · 18/06/2012 14:18

I can give you them, but it would help to know your price range as there are 30.
I'll give you the top 10 in a minute....

You can get a month's worth of Which for 1 pound' thereafter it's something like £9.25/month. You can subscribe today just for your month then cancel, we do it every time we want something, you just have to remember to cancel subs (write on calendar...) just a thought, we've just bought a roomba that way.

mine rubbish... i may divorce him... Wink

PigletJohn · 18/06/2012 16:16

Get a Bosch, or Miele if you can afford it.

(I got a Siemens last time, on clearance at John Lewis, but it is designed and built by the same company that is jointly owned by Bosch, so I suppose it qualifies)

Aliceinthelookingglass · 18/06/2012 16:29

We have had a Bosch and a Miele.

Out of them both the Miele is far better and just reliable < waits for it to break down now>

So far- 15 years and not a peep out of it.

aimum · 18/06/2012 20:15

I've been looking at dishwashers and think I've narrowed it down to a Miele on the basis that they have an anti-leak thing - sounds handy if we ever have a wooden floor. The layout of the basket was good as well. All the BOSCHH get good reviews as well though. The only thing I can't decide on, is whether to have a cutlery drawer or a cutlery basket.

PigletJohn · 18/06/2012 20:24

I think you will find the Bosch ones also have an anti-flood sump detector underneath, and a leaking-pipe detector on the supply pipe. Check the brochure for the model that looks most suitable.

thegrumpyqueen · 18/06/2012 21:51

Thanks all. Think I'm settled on Bosch SMS65E12GB.

But it's much cheaper at BHS Direct and I've heard John Lewis customer service is not what it used to be. Anyone used BHS recently?

The John Lewis price generally includes a 2-year guarantee.

They are usually quite reliable though.

comelywench · 18/06/2012 21:59

Not that this will be of much use now, but my local library has a subscription to Which and you can go in and see the mags, or view online. I assume this would be common across the country. I would never have thought that would be the kind of thing they do, but my Mum's in there all the time checking stuff. You have to stay in the sight of the librarian tho. People kept nicking the pages relevant to them apparently! Hmm

Aliceinthelookingglass · 19/06/2012 08:59

If you can stretch to a Miele then I don't think you will be disappointed- I think they have a 10 yr guarantee- the washing machines do- and John Lewis told us ( off record of course) that any Miele would last for 20 years.

Re. cutlery trays and baskets- have had both and prefer a tray- it seems to get cutlery cleaner whereas a in a basket food can get stuck etc and clogged up.
