Is it best to wash towels only (ie dont chuck in anything else) and same with bedding? I often have 3 or 4 items of clothing and never put them in with towels or bedding and wait till I have a full load....

Bertie Grin no but I've seen DH doing vigourous crack drying! He's from a hot country and his habits are very clean on account of that....two or three showers a day even though we don't live in a hot country anymore...and no dampness left behind!

Wingdingdong · 13/06/2012 13:29

Don't you have different towels for face/body? or use inside for body, outside for face?

Re OP, we do separate loads for towels and bedding - they're full loads anyway, plus they go on hot washes, plus you shouldn't use fabric conditioner with towels (reduces absorbency) though I sometimes do anyway because I like a nice fluffy towel

On that note, I've only just found out you shouldn't add fabric conditioner to jeans either as it weakens the fibres and gives you saggy knees/bum Blush. Still, I now have a good excuse for the shape of my jeans, I'd always thought it was my body!

wing I never knew that ?? Some trousers do go baggier on knees really quickly and look awful that must be why!!

ClueLessFirstTime · 13/06/2012 13:58

fabric conditioner buggers up elastics, maybe that's why?

imnotmymum · 13/06/2012 14:29

yes but I have never known the disadvantages of fabric conditioner I just thought everything feels lovely and soft and smells great. I need a list will go and google.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 13/06/2012 23:22

Wing no! If you did tht, then hung it up to reuse...how on earth would you remember which side was face and which was arse? Confused

Sleepwhenidie · 13/06/2012 23:25

Towels separately because no fabric conditioner - reduces absorbency.

BertieBotts · 13/06/2012 23:30

Beach towels have an inside/outside.

Buntingbunny · 13/06/2012 23:41

I hot wash towels occasionally due to DD1 leaving them damp in stupid places.

BackforGood · 13/06/2012 23:56

Bedding tends to get it's own wash, purely because I can fill up the drum with sheets / pillow case / duvet covers when I change the beds, so there's no room for anything else. Not for any special segregation reasons.

Towels I love, because they can fill up any wash - they don't mind being washed on a hotter / longer / extra 'superwash' type cycle if you have space in one of those, but they aren't exactly ever dirty so are quite happy bulking out a more delicate or just a "normal" wash.

redrubyshoes · 14/06/2012 14:53

I find this towel solves the arse problem Wink

Housewifefromheaven · 14/06/2012 15:04

Yes towels separate, no fabric conditioner. Am wondering now though about 60/40. Does 60 not fade your colours? I only use 60 for whites

Housewifefromheaven · 14/06/2012 15:05

:o ruby we bought my dad an arse/face bar soap on a rope at Christmas!

I do towels separately, on 60 degrees without fabric softener. Bedding gets fabric conditioner, also 60 degrees, and it fills the machine. Clothes are either 30 or 40 degrees, although undies get a hotter wash, so I never put it all in together.

justtryingtodomybest · 17/06/2012 16:15

I'm with Adora on this - towels get done separately as on 60 degrees and no fabric conditioner.
Bedding also gets done at 60 but with Lenor Sleep Sensations fabric conditioner.
Other clothes get done at 40 degrees with fabric conditioner split into whites, colours etc.

justtryingtodomybest · 17/06/2012 16:27

Actually, I've just realised that I went to Asda this morning and bought 3 different types of fabric conditioner! So don't listen to me as I am obviously stone mad.
