AIBU to ask you if I have broken my dishwasher?

I feel sick. I put the dishwasher on with a skewer dangling down from the top shelf, which stopped everything turning. I did investate the jangling noise and burning smell (3 times!) but just didn't see it. Now it won't go!

Anyone else done this? Was it fixable and how much is I gonna cost?

The worst thing is I'd used the skewer in a botched attempt to sew a carrier bag holder. (desperately trying to get the elastic in). The carrier bag holder looks like a dead fox in a sleeping bag. Sad

Allow it to cool down. There is just a chance it will work once it's cool.

Ooh burning smell doesn't sound good...sorry. I have accidently blocked the propeller-like things in my dishwasher before but the only fallout was badly washed dishes.

I have found that it is very expensive to get somene to fix a dishwasher and the error codes don't seem to tell anyone exactly what the problem is. My solution has been to buy another, costing £40 more than the suggested charges for fixing my last one (have only had to do this once so far).

Sounds like you will have blown a motor or melted a belt somewhere. If you know someone who's handy, they could probably take a lookf if you're not covered. The problem will be easily found - a burnt motor smells even once its cooled

DH says that the paddles are normally driven by water. He doesn't think it's anything to do with skewer.
He thinks wiring loom or motor
Everything is fixable. If it's a motor then probably not worth repairing. The wiring loom then if you know anyone with a bit of electical knowledge can replace individual wires usually.
