Cleaning base of iron

Hi, does anyone have any tips for cleaning the (ceramic) base of my steam iron? - it has become blackened, I think from ironing over t shirt transfers at a high heat, & black marks are being transferred onto other clothes. many thanks.

Can get on Amazon but cheaper on eBay from memory

A bar of soap works for me. (the normal stuff out of your bathroom) Rub it on, iron hard onto kitchen roll. Sorted!
