Help how do I disinfect a door mat which has dog poo on it?!

We have a built in long door mat in our hall which is made of this sort of material . Have just got the buggy in the hall to discover a wheel was encrusted with dog poo. Have taken buggy outside and disinfected the wheels but now I want to clean the mat but not sure how to properly disinfect it. It isn't obviously dirty to the eye but has obviously had dog poo rolled on it - some advice as to what to use/technique would be great as not sure what to do.

Remove bits
Scrub with warm water with bleach in it
Leave to dry
Possibly repeat, depending how much remains

Scrubby brush and a Milton solution would be your best bet.

So the milton and bleach wouldn't stain the mat? We've only recently had it done so I don't want to ruin it.

Also - do I dilute the bleach/milton first or stick it on neat?

I have a mat like that and t's pretty indestructible!

Personally would dilute the bleach as then you don't have to try to rinse it off.

I've got that Dettox spray already ruby so after cleaning will use that. Will get going on it soon and let you know progress Grin

isn't the mat set in a tray, which it can be lifted out from, and taken outside to hose down?

reastie · 06/06/2012 12:45

It's not really in a tray piglet it's cut straight on to our floorboards and it's raining outside . I can confirm I've now bleached it with diluted bleach and it seems to have survived, just hope that's killed all the nasties. Thank you all.

will it lift out when the rain stops (or could you let the rain wash it)?
